Mid Week Reflection

This week is quickly flying by in terms of work and classes but at the same time there is an utter stillness about the week as well. The tragedy in Boston that occurred is simply unfathomable and it's heartbreaking to think that it was dedicated to the individuals who lost their lives in Newtown and became another tragedy in and of itself. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who was affected by this tragedy. 

Times like these bring about reflection and personal evaluation and I have come to appreciate all that I have and the relationships that I have and keep. It's all about appreciation and living each day to the fullest. 

The reflection continued this week in terms of academics as well. I recently watched this TED talk regarding science in education and how many students initially start out thinking they want to go into medicine and then end up getting strayed away from the field. Freeman Hrabowski ends his speech with something that really allows me to reflect and appreciate... 

"Aristotle said, "Excellence is never an accident. It is the result of high intention, sincere effort and intelligent execution. It represents the wisest option among many alternatives. And then he said something that gives me goosebumps. He said, "Choice, not chance, determines your destiny." Choice, not chance, determines your destiny, dreams and values."
